Jim St. James is an American singer-songwriter, recording artist, and live performer whose independent career spans more than thirty-five years. From his roots in Northwest Indiana to Nashville, Tennessee, St. James has written, recorded, and performed original music while building audiences throughout the United States, Canada and beyond.

Choosing an independent path rather than the traditional major-label route, St. James built his career one song, one performance, and one audience at a time. His music has taken him from intimate listening rooms and songwriter festivals to theaters, wineries, yacht clubs, community events, and concert stages across more than three decades.

“Amelia” — Historical, Museum & Educational Recognition

Among St. James’ most historically significant works is “Amelia,” his original biographical song about aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. The recording has long been featured on the official Amelia Earhart website, establishing an enduring connection between the song and the historical legacy that inspired it.

The National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York, has confirmed “Amelia” for use in connection with its Amelia Earhart exhibit.

In Atchison, Kansas — Amelia Earhart’s birthplace — the Atchison County Historical Society has added “Amelia” to its digital archive, preserving the recording within the historical organization serving Earhart’s home county.

The Air League in London, England, has confirmed plans to incorporate “Amelia” into aviation-history educational material for its online learning platform for young people across the United Kingdom.

The Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita, Kansas, has confirmed “Amelia” for inclusion in an audio listening project featuring oral histories and music connected with the years its historic building operated as Wichita Municipal Airport.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has welcomed “Amelia” for use in future presentations relating to Howland Island and Amelia Earhart. Howland Island was the destination Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan were attempting to reach during their final flight in 1937, creating a particularly meaningful connection between the song and one of the most significant places in her story.

Together with its longstanding presence on the official Amelia Earhart website, these developments have given “Amelia” a growing role in historical preservation, museum interpretation, and aviation education.

“Caroline” — National Americana Recognition

St. James’ signature recording, “Caroline,” reached #1 on the national Roots Music Report Americana Chart and remained on the chart for twelve consecutive weeks. During its chart run, “Caroline” appeared alongside recordings by acclaimed Americana artists including Lyle Lovett, Lori McKenna, Jack Ingram, Pat Green, Jason Boland, and Walt Wilkins, reflecting strong national support from independent Americana radio.
